Police have launched an investigation after allegations that a man in his 60s suffering from a mental illness sexually assaulted a 10-year-old boy who was admitted to the same hospital several times.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency announced today (15th) that it is investigating a man in his 60s without detention on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

A, an inpatient at a psychiatric hospital in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, is accused of sexually assaulting a child who was hospitalized on the same floor at around 10:30 pm on the 28th of last month by taking him to the bathroom.

It is known that the victim was admitted to the hospital for treatment of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in early July.

A's crime was revealed during a consultation with the child by a social worker at the hospital.

When the hospital began to investigate the truth, it was reported that Mr. A firmly denied the allegations.

However, on the day of the incident, the image of Mr. A heading to the bathroom with the victim was captured on the hospital CCTV.

A hospital official said, "(the child victim of CCTV) entered the bathroom together with Mr. A. He went in and came out after 3 minutes, (again) went in and came out after 2 or 3 minutes."

According to one media report, the victim said that he tried to keep his mouth shut by giving him ramen every day he took him to the bathroom.

That said, this isn't the first time the crime has been committed.

Meanwhile, the hospital explained that during the police investigation, A and the floor where the victim was staying were separated, and there is no possibility of encountering as it is a closed ward.

However, it is said that no additional measures were taken to prevent similar crimes after the incident occurred.

The parents of the victims complained that they wanted to move the hospital right away, but they could not move because there were not enough hospitals with children's beds.

The police, who are investigating, will call Mr. A to investigate the details of the incident.
