A 30-year-old man who violently assaulted his girlfriend and fell down the stairs to death has been sentenced to prison.

The Chuncheon District Court's Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Jin Won-doo) announced yesterday (13th) that 30-year-old A, who was charged with assault and murder, was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

The incident occurred on April 10 in an apartment in Chuncheon.

Person A is accused of holding her girlfriend by the hair in the apartment where her girlfriend B lives, assaulting her face and body several times and causing her to fall to the floor under the stairs and die.

Person A is known to have committed this crime while arguing over the fact that Mr. B dragged the clothes he had to return to the floor.

It is said that Mr. A argued with Mr. B, saying, "It is not my fault" in court on this day, but denied the crime by saying that he did not force Mr. B to fall.

However, the court ruled that the causal relationship between the assault and death was recognized because the reason B fell down the stairs was because he could not overcome the power of A who was assaulting him.

The contents of what Mr. A explained to the 119 paramedics immediately after the incident, the contents of the police statement, and the findings of the autopsy were adopted as the basis for the judgment of guilt.

The court pointed out, "Efforts were made to provide relief by calling 119 after the victim fell down the stairs, but a serious result of death occurred, and it gave the bereaved family psychological pain that was difficult to heal for the rest of their lives."

“The defendant has a history of assaulting a victim in the past and has a history of being punished for violent crimes four times before 2015,” he explained.
