<Reporter> As

of today, the number of cumulative first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has exceeded 40 million.

It has been 228 days since the vaccination started at the end of February.

As a result, 77.9% of the total population and over 90% of those over the age of 18 were vaccinated.

Vaccination was completed in 68.9% of the population over the age of 18, and about 7 out of 10 adults.

In the case of 16-17 year olds, 420,000 people, half of the total, have completed pre-registration for the vaccine.

However, still around 5 million adults over the age of 18 have never been vaccinated.

The quarantine authorities re-emphasized the need for vaccination, saying that 83% of the confirmed patients did not complete the vaccination, and that the effectiveness of severe prevention exceeds 73% of those who have completed the vaccination.

In order to provide a prompt vaccination opportunity, starting today, it is possible to inoculate on the same day by calling the hospital without a prior reservation.

[Kim Ki-Nam / Head of Vaccination Planning Division, Vaccination Promotion Division: This will help to increase access to vaccination by making it easier for anyone who has not been vaccinated to vaccinate at any time (I think)]

The booster shot, which is additionally vaccinated 6 months after completing the inoculation, will also start for the first time in Korea from tomorrow.

The first target of application is 45,000 medical staff working at 160 corona treatment hospitals across the country, who will receive the Pfizer vaccine.

With winter approaching, flu vaccinations are also in full swing.

From tomorrow, the flu vaccine will start for people over the age of 75 and from the 18th for those over the age of 70 and the 21st for those over the age of 65.
