In autumn, the season of fishing, there are many people who enjoy fishing with the cool sea breeze. However, the Gaetbawi of Geomundo, a marine national park, has been damaged by anglers and has been banned from entry.

Restoration work has begun to revive the scarred Gaetbawi Rock. Let's go to the site together.

Gaetbawi Rock on Mugunamu Island, north of Geomundo, Yeosu.

As a result of an ecological survey by the National Park Service, the damage was severe due to lead lumps thrown away by fishermen, and access to nine areas including this one was banned for over a year.

Violation after a one-month guidance period is subject to a fine of up to 500,000 won.

Still, you can see the fishermen coming in on fishing boats.

The National Park Service staff climbs the steep sea rock and sends the anglers back.

[From October 13th, fines will be levied immediately. (Yes, yes.) Call me to pick you up. (You shouldn't be fishing here.)]

[Mr. A/Getbawi angler: I think the fishing boats that guide you on the site should provide good guidance. No, I didn't hear about the prohibited section.]

There is a hole in the rock where the anglers stayed to fix the fishing rod, and these waste lead lumps are scattered around.

Garbage thrown away by anglers, fishing line, and cigarette butts lie in the crevice of the rock right next door.

As soon as the restoration work began, about 100 waste lead lumps were removed from only one gaetbawi rock.

[Hwang Young-sik / Dadohaehaesang National Park Office Team Leader: There are thousands of holes that we have seen with the naked eye.

It is estimated that there are tens of thousands of waste lead.

Due to lead poisoning, marine life eats, fish eats, and goes up to our table again.]

This is the first attempt to fill a hole in the

sea

rock, using a material mixed with non-toxic natural adhesive and sand.

[Hwang Young-sik / Dadohaehaesang National Park Office Team Leader: The drilling (restoration) work is the first work we are trying to do now in a national park.

The work must be completed within 30 minutes as it hardens within 30 minutes.]

The ground rice containing preservatives can also cause contamination, so it is removed by rubbing it with a rolling pin and spraying seawater. touch the fishing line.

[Hwang Young-sik / Team Leader of Dadohaehaesang National Park Office: There are many cases where creatures like seagulls get caught in their necks while eating tangled fishing line while eating ground rice and garbage.]

Waste lead collected from Geomundo for 1 night and 2 days over 500 million.

However, it will take a considerable amount of time for the damaged island to regain its shape, as there are piles of Styrofoam that have been washed up by tides on the beach.
