RTL Nederland announced earlier this month that it had fallen victim to a cyber attack.

At the time, it was not yet clear what the attack was and whether a ransom had been demanded.

The attack took place on September 9.

A number of computers, servers and systems were held hostage by cyber criminals, making them partially inaccessible.

Employees were asked to work from home as much as possible.

The attackers gained access to RTL's network because the login details of an employee of an "external management party" were stolen.

According to the company, two-step verification was not enabled.

The cyber criminals no longer have access to the network.

The computers have been restored.
