20 villa-type condos are still abandoned around Yeongrangho Lake in Sokcho, which was hit by a large forest fire two years ago. However, neither administrative agencies nor private companies have come up with a sharp solution.

Reporter Jeong Dong-won of G1 Broadcasting covered the story.

Yeongrangho Lake is loved by Sokcho citizens as a resting place.

Burnt buildings lined the promenade.

The blackened walls were cracked all over and the roof collapsed completely.

It is not maintained and the weeds are overgrown and the building debris is piled up everywhere.

These are the villa-type condos that were damaged by the forest fire in April 2019.

It has been more than two years since the fire broke out, but it is still horribly neglected as it was at that time.

27 out of 42 buildings were burned down.

Except for the 10 buildings in which the resort has 100% ownership, in 17 buildings, there are only 133 room owners.

We sent a consent form for demolition, but there were many unanswered responses, so the consent rate was only 58%.

[Kang Jeong-ho / Sokcho City Councilor: It should not be left unattended because it is private property, but the administration and the resort side should be more active so that it can be demolished as soon as possible.]

However, the implementation is not expected to be easy.

Consent is required, as the whereabouts of many of the 133 room owners are unknown.

The city of Sokcho is of the view that it is difficult to actively intervene as it is a private property.

The demolition is expected to take a considerable amount of time as both the administration and private companies cannot come up with a sharp solution to the lengthy legal battle.
