Students from the National Polytechnic Institute (NPIC) in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) created the very first drone capable of carrying a person.

Objective of this project: to fight sustainably against the monster traffic jams in the city.

The idea is also to facilitate the access of rescuers to places so far out of reach, explains

For the moment, the drone, dubbed the “NPIC Human Carrier Drone”, is still in the experimental phase.

It can carry a person weighing 60 kg and fly up to four meters for almost ten minutes.

Need investors to finalize the product

The students took three years to build this first prototype consisting of eight propellers, a school chair and four batteries.

They spent almost $ 20,000 on this project.

The equipment will probably evolve so that the drone can one day be used safely on a daily basis.

According to Sarin Sereyvatha, head of research and development technology at NPIC, the establishment is trying to get more investment to finalize the product.

The students, for their part, estimate at two years the time required to achieve a fully functional drone.
