In consumer technology there are two types of milestones: technological developments themselves and prices. The former shape the market with their huge or folding screens, their protruding cameras or, long ago, the disappearance of keyboards. However, it is the seconds that make these changes end up reaching the general public. In the wireless headphone industry, leaving the $ 100 barrier far away can make cables seem as anachronistic in the 21st century as a floppy disk in the late 20th century. In this scenario, the

Panasonic B100

, with its 69.90 officers (around 55 unofficial, according to the store), would be one of the actors of change, albeit with a secondary role. They are not the printing press, but they are a novel.

Price, of course, is not everything. If it is not accompanied by a corresponding performance - not perfect, yes much better than what one would expect in that segment - it is useless. Here it works. They are

battle

headphones

, to withstand whatever is thrown at them in the day to day and end up honorably removed in a drawer after a few years. In the face of the barbarism of a market that shamelessly exceeds one hundred and something euros, utilitarianism is firmly opposed.

Thus, the main argument in favor of these headphones is also the simplest: they

sound great and not only for their price

. If the economic variable is taken into account, they go up several steps. The downside is that the powerful sound - the bass is especially forceful - is not accompanied by active noise cancellation and its traditional format does not add isolation. You hear the music and you hear the street.

From a design point of view, the Panasonic B100s are not the prettiest on the market. They are elegant and sober, without excesses or capers, but somewhat boring. Although they do not fall into brutalism, they are much closer to it than modernism or rococo. In a market in which companies are increasingly trying to innovate more, despite the fact that there is little room for design -in their forms and in the very ear that houses them-, the company has decided to go for the known bad. That, why fool us, it works without being out of tune.

Interestingly, its cargo box manages to attract attention despite its simplicity with something as old, at least, as the wheel:

a circle

.

This charging indicator doubles as a pairing button and breaks the lines for a very simple touch of personality.

At the top, the brand puts its name and a new texture.

Between the two they achieve an autonomy of

16 hours

: four with the headphones fully charged and an additional 12 in the refueling that the case allows, which warns by turning its circle an ominous red when it is time to go through the plug.

Although the size of the B100 is considerable, with much more body than similar devices from other brands, the truth is that they are comfortable and are not particularly heavy. They are easily kept in place with glasses and a mask, although they are not adapted to sport and its sudden movements. Also, repositioning them generally triggers the touch controls.

For better or for worse, the controls have the sensibilities of an adolescent poet, in love, unrequited and drunk; that is, just too much. If it is channeled and knows how to use it, it is perfect, but if this energy gets out of hand it is cumbersome. Thus, a slight touch triggers the control, so repositioning the earpiece to your ear will easily mean stopping playback, skipping the current track or invoking the voice assistant. In any case, the functions are complete and easy to learn: a tap on any 'helmet' pauses the music and two on the right go through the song, while three go backward; on the left, this is used to lower and raise the volume, respectively. The long press, meanwhile, calls Alexa on duty or rejects an incoming call.

All in all, Panasonic B100s are a very good option in which the buts are few and far between.

The (little) bad is either compensated by the good or forgiven by the price.

Utilitarianism or barbarism.
