high-performance telescope was installed in Sokcho, Gangwon-do for viewing the East Sea, but there was a report that it turned in the opposite direction to give a clear view of nearby private houses and hotel rooms. The city of Sokcho, where the telescope was installed, was aware of the problem, but only demolished it after the interview.

Seorak Bridge in Sokcho, Gangwon-do.

As it is connected to Abai Village, Sokcho's representative tourist destination, it is a place where tourists and residents do not stop visiting.

A high-performance telescope with 20x magnification is placed on the bridge to enjoy the view of the East Sea.

However, this telescope is not the only thing that can see the sea.

It rotates 180 degrees left and right to the opposite side of the city, and you can see the inside of a nearby apartment or hotel room.

It's in a room across the bridge.

Even though it is about 200m away in a straight line, I can see my movements at a glance through the telescope.

[Ryoo Young-han/Tourist: It seems quite unsettling to expose your nakedness or private life through a telescope installed by the city.] When the

evening comes and the lights are turned on, you can even see the guests sitting face to face and eating.

[Han Yerin/Tourist: It's a little creepy. You wouldn't even know you could see me, but if someone says they're looking at me, I'm here to rest comfortably, so I'm anxious.] Even the

residents living nearby are also anxious.

[Nearby resident: What is this? My house is over there, and this is a real problem. If you can clearly see people moving around, this really can't be.]

Sokcho City explained that it was due to a malfunction, saying that the telescope was initially installed so that only the direction of the sea could

be seen

.

I knew it was an invasion of privacy, but I was letting go.

[Sokcho City Staff: We patrol every day, we are. There are a lot of tourists. Even on weekends, I keep coming out and patrolling... .] As

soon as the coverage began, Sokcho City hastily removed the telescope in question.
