A daycare center teacher in her 40s who was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial for habitually abusing children aged 1-2 years was sentenced to probation at the appeals court.

The 3rd Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Appeal Division, Chief Judge Kim Tae-ho) was sentenced to prison in the appeals trial of 49-year-old former childcare teacher A, who was charged with violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (aggravated punishment of child abuse by workers in child welfare facilities, etc.). It was announced today (13th) that the original sentence of one year was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation.

The court maintained the order of 40 hours of child abuse prevention lectures given by the lower court to Mr.

The court ruled, "Combining the fact that Mr. A has agreed with the victim and showed an attitude of self-reflection through detention for a certain period of time, the trial court's sentence is rather heavy and unreasonable."

From May 28 to July 23 last year, at a daycare center in Gwangsan-gu, where he worked, A was handed over to trial on charges of physically and emotionally abusing three children between the ages of 1 and 2 on 13 occasions.

A was found to have injured the children by hitting them several times with their fists and palms. They were also found to have beaten the child's head with a plate, shook it by the ear, or punished the child by standing alone in a corner of the classroom for 30 minutes.

Mr. A repeated acts that deviated from the proper discipline for reasons such as 'did not spill or eat properly', 'do not clean the table properly', and 'not take a nap'.

The court of first instance said, "Mr. A neglected the responsibility of protecting the child to grow up in a healthy and emotionally stable state, the bad quality of the crime by committing multiple abuses, and the fact that the parents of the victim child are calling for strict punishment, etc. I decided on the older brother after considering everything,” he explained.
