restaurant "El Madrileño"

) has won this Sunday with the award for the

"best paella in the world"

, in the 60 + 1 edition of the International Competition of Paella Valenciana de Sueca (Valencia).

Its chefs,

Óscar de la Fuente

and

Javier Hernández

, have achieved the recognition of the jury in this contest, in which

40 chefs from all over the world have participated

, the organization reported in a statement.

The Swedish Valencian International Paella Competition, attached to the gastrotourism brand L'Exquisit Mediterrani, and with the collaboration of the Provincial Tourist Board, València Turisme, has held its most anticipated edition this year after the suspension last year, for the first time in its history, because of the pandemic.

For better compliance with health regulations, on this occasion, the location chosen to hold the contest has been moved from the station park (usual place in recent years) to the

Cooperative of Rice Seed Producers

(Copsemar), where the

first edition

was held

in 1961

Restaurant "El Trato Gastrobar "

, from Madrid.

award for the best paella cooked by a restaurant in the Valencian Community

has been for the

Restaurant "La Arrocería de la Mejillonera"

, in Benidorm (Alicante), and the best paella cooked by a restaurant in Sueca, has been made by the restaurant Fernandet .

The award for the

best paella cooked by a restaurant outside of Spain

has gone to

"El Coraloense Restaurant"

, from Bell Gardens, USA.

The

"Paelleros de Honor"

distinctions

have been presented posthumously to three people who have had a special relationship with the event throughout its history:

Francisco Segarra Fabià

, mayor of Sueca in 1961 and promoter of the contest;

Jacinto Perea Gabarda

, chef de cuisine of the Hotel Astoria in Valencia and first winner of the contest in 1961;

and

Josefa Clar Beltrán

, Sueca's neighbor and the first woman to win the contest in 1975.
