Orange ended the Femtocell service on August 21.

It offered the possibility to those who did not receive a mobile network within their home to benefit from it using a box.

A service that was free (subject to paying € 19.90 commissioning fee).

The 160,000 households that still benefited from it will now have to do without.

A choice denounced by the UFC Que-Choisir.

“This decision leads to a real drop in the quality of service,” says the consumer association.

An alternative function?

For its part, the operator indicates that it complies with an obligation of the legislator to return part of its 2100 frequencies, used by the femtocell service.

The company prefers to rely on 4G coverage in rural areas rather than reviewing its service, notes the association.

For femtocell users, Orange offers to use the Wi-Fi calling function. Problem: this device, which allows you to make and receive calls on your smartphone using the Wi-Fi of the box, is not available on everyone terminals.

Therefore, for some, this means investing in a new phone to benefit from it.
