In Seoul, a former sex offender broke off a location-tracking device known as an 'electronic anklet' and fled, but has not been caught for over a day.

According to SBS coverage, the Eastern Probation Office of the Ministry of Justice is tracking down a 56-year-old man named Kang Mo, who is subject to electronic supervision.

Kang, who was released from prison in May of this year after serving a prison sentence for special forcible sexual assault, was wearing an electronic anklet, but yesterday (27th) around 5:30 pm on the street in Sincheon-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, he cut off the device and fled.

The Eastern Probation Service, which immediately recognized the damage, requested cooperation from the police and started tracking.

It was investigated that Kang threw the electronic anklet near Mongchontoseong Station on Subway Line 8.

It is said that he took a rental car to Seoul Station and then abandoned the car and fled.

An official from the Eastern Probation Service said, "We believe the victim is in Seoul and are tracking them together with the police."

In Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 21st, a 50-year-old sex offender went into hiding after cutting off the electronic anklet, but has not been caught for a week.

If you break the electronic anklet and go into hiding, you will be punished by imprisonment for not more than 7 years or by a fine of not more than 20 million won in accordance with the Act on Attaching Electronic Devices.

The purpose of the electronic supervision system is to attach a location tracking device to criminals who are likely to commit a recidivism, identify the location and movement route 24 hours a day, and prevent recidivism through close supervision by probation officers.
