• Specialized in equipment for floor maintenance, the manufacturer Vileda is launching a 3-in-1 device with its JetClean.

  • Vacuuming, washing and drying, also handy, this vacuum cleaner sold for 249 euros is quite effective for regular maintenance of its home.

  • But its heavy weight and its electric cable remain handicaps where other similar and lighter models operate on battery.

The weather.

This essential data that we risk more and more missing with the return to school.

For the chore of maintaining the floors of the house, upright vacuum cleaners can be of great help: as the name suggests, they suck up dust and wash the floor at the same time.

Vileda's JetClean is one of them.

It even adds drying to its benefits!

While the holidays dried up our finances a bit, we were attracted by the price of the device which did not seem excessive to us: 249 euros.

A fairly engaging price given the promises of JetClean on paper.

So, we tried it ...

Without maintenance product

Disappointment out of the box: the JetClean is a corded stick vacuum. It therefore does not operate on battery power and its mobility may be constrained. This probably explains its low price. Assembled in two minutes, the device weighs 4.7 kg which is still a heavy weight. One of its competitors, the wireless Bissell Crosswave 2582N we tested, weighs 5.2 kg, but has a battery. Standing alone in a “standing” station, the Vileda model is easily stored.

If we scan the beast with our eyes, we can see just under its handle a 640 ml water tank. A measuring cup is provided to fill it. The Vileda brand specifies that it is possible to add a drop of floor detergent “as an option”. The manufacturer of floor maintenance equipment is therefore not pushing consumption. A good point, too, for the environment. Other brands, such as Kobold and its VB100 broom vacuum cleaner, recommend using their products exclusively… requiring regular checkouts to afford bottles of detergents. Lower is the collector (400 ml). This is where the dirt sucked in will land, but also the dirty water, itself sucked up.

Finally, at the very bottom, the JetClean suction head is equipped with a microfiber brush.

This is activated using a trigger under the handle.

So you can not only vacuum, but also vacuum and wash at the same time.

Handy but noisy

On trial, the JetClean turns out to be quite easy to use.

Our fears about its embarrassing power cable have been partially addressed.

Certainly less practical than a vacuum cleaner running on battery, we were able to carry out our little cleaning floor by floor without having to plug / unplug it constantly, the 7 meters of its cable finally corresponding to a practical length.

And here, no problem of autonomy!

Warning: the JetClean is noisy: we measured its noise level at 76 db (A), which is quite high. The noisiest vacuum cleaners usually flirt with 80 db (A)… So don't plan on cleaning up while your significant other or the children are sleeping…

The articulated head of the device is quite easily oriented and goes under a lot of furniture (bed, sofa ...).

But during our tests, its thickness of 9 cm did not allow it to interfere under some cabinets.

Nevertheless, the device is quite handy.

During a cleaning cycle, it is therefore possible to trigger the washing when desired.

By pressing the trigger under the handle, the washing brush is moistened with 8 jets and rotates at 8,000 revolutions per minute.

Eight LEDs on the front of the brush then light up and allow you to better identify any dirt.

The end of small traces

The suction power of the JetClean draws dust and dirty water up to the drip tray.

We found that small stains on our tiles and other footprints disappeared quickly.

One or two brush strokes and we didn't talk about it anymore.

As if stuck to the ground, more encrusted materials (like residues of dried food on the edge of our cat's bowl!) Were more difficult to remove, requiring a little emphasis on the surface to be cleaned.

At the back of the brush, a squeegee removes water residue when backing up with the vacuum cleaner.

In places (and in particular on the joints of our tiling), it sometimes remains.

Good point, however: the JetClean has two tanks, it always washes with clean water.

A slightly spicy cocktail of water and dust

Overall, Vileda's JetClean is satisfactory. This washing and drying vacuum cleaner seems to us a good match for small regular maintenance, especially those of small dwellings. Fifteen minutes of vacuuming / washing on a floor that we did not think too dirty created in the collector of the vacuum cleaner a very opaque water mixture in which floated a lot of dust and small waste that we had not necessarily spotted to the naked eye before our cleaning… Not very tasty. Warning: the emptying of this container after use must be carried out in a toilet so as not to run the risk of clogging the pipes of a sink.

And the maintenance of the JetClean is simple: all you need to do is rotate your brush on a provided base for two minutes to rinse it off with clean water.

For a more thorough washing of your home, however, it will be wise to return regularly to a more conventional system and to elbow grease using a classic mop that can really go everywhere.

But the device does a service.

Its main flaw ultimately remains its power cable in a world where competing models are devoid of it.

Note that robot vacuum cleaners can also wash, such as the Ecovacs D605 which can currently be found at 249 euros also exclusively on the Internet.
