There has been a report that the construction waste generated during the construction of a new apartment building has been piled up in the basement of the complex until the end of six years.

Residents of the apartments are demanding that they be removed quickly, but the contractor is shifting the blame to subcontractors.

Reporter Im Tae-woo covered this.

An apartment complex in Songpa-gu, Seoul, completed in November 2015.

Underground warehouses are littered with building waste, including tiles, insulation, moldy cement sacks and empty paint cans.

[Apartment management staff: (Constructor's side) They covered everything they used as a bed with furniture and put it all in, out of sight. He piled up all the waste materials and threw them over there.] In

the contractors remains.

Also, the temporary desk was full of garbage, and even a work vest was thrown away.

All of them have been thrown away since they moved in six years ago, and residents estimate that there are dozens of tons of garbage dumped in seven warehouses.

However, the construction company, Hyundai Development Company, has been delaying the process until now saying that the four subcontractors are responsible.

Residents filed a lawsuit and were sentenced to 9.8 million won in damages for neglecting the waste, but it was less than half of the expected disposal cost, so the residents have to pay an additional cost of more than 10 million won.

[Lee Kyung-mi / Resident Representative: I don't think residents can pay a single penny at all. I think the company should deal with this and leave.] As the

conflict grew, the residents reported Hyundai Industrial Development to the Songpa-gu Office for waste dumping.

The ward office said that it is reviewing administrative measures such as fines for negligence against Hyundai Industrial Development after a recent on-site investigation.
