The

scams Amazon

are nothing new, but as the e -

commerce giant reaches more and more people, scammers give new tactics to try to

take advantage of an oversight or people less showers with technology.

As published by the cybersecurity company ESET on its corporate blog, the three most common forms of scam linked to purchases on Amazon are '

phishing'

, the use of gift cards as a hook and scams with payments outside the platform.

The latter is perhaps the least common, but the most dangerous.

Although Amazon controls who sells in its store and what products can be sold,

scammers

sometimes

sneak up on them

who put a great deal on the platform, but do their best to get the transaction done outside of secure payment systems.

Scammers

put a phone

the user calls and often negotiate a much lower price for the advertised product.

But when it comes to making the payment, they disappear and never send anything.

The other forms of scam are more common.

First,

phishing

, or the identity theft attempt, is

almost always

done through

emails or SMS

.

A very common scam is a warning from an account that is trying to impersonate Amazon, prompting you to click on a link to unlock your account.

It is all a ploy to get your personal data and, in some cases, even bank details with which to steal money.

The other form of scam that is growing more and more is related to gift cards.

It is possible that an email or even a phone call will urge us to give Amazon access data and bank details to unlock our account.

The reason: that

we have used many gift cards

and we could be penalized for this unless, in an urgent way, we deliver that data.

Obviously, it is a lie and they use the urgency to attract people and try to scam them.

The safest way to avoid Amazon-related scams is to always make sure that the sender is really who they say they are.

A phishing or scam email is caught very quickly because the sender will never have

an address ending in "amazon.com"

, which is the one who sends the official offers and notices.

Similarly, A

mazon will never make phone calls

asking for personal information.
