Internet The reasons why your home Wi-Fi is not working as well as it should
Tips Five tips to start the year with good Wi-Fi in your home
A group of German researchers has discovered
several security flaws in WiFi devices
, ranging from a
router
to a smart light bulb, also passing through security cameras or even children's toys.
Security flaws would allow a malicious user to
gain all sorts of privileges on a device
and arbitrarily execute code.
Who has confirmed the news is one of the major affected by this problem, Realtek, a technology company that develops wireless communication systems for
many large technology brands
.
Hence the seriousness of the problem.
To this we must add that this failure has been
present in devices with up to 10 years of life,
so its update is essential.
Realtek has ensured that their new development kit has implemented a solution to this flaw and that they also have a security update available for other versions.
However, it is up to those responsible for these devices to update them.
Connecting to one that is out of date opens the door to a possible hack using these flaws
.
Researchers who have discovered the problem have managed to replicate it on up to 198 different devices.
Since these devices are owned by very popular brands and selling large numbers of units, the failure could affect millions of consumers around the world.
Those affected include names such as Netgear, Logitech, LG, D-Link, Belkin, Askey or Asus.
