While the pandemic in Germany is still unsettling, almost everything is as usual in California.

Although only a few foreign guests are allowed to enter, the Monterey Car Week took place last week, including the classic car meeting on the famous Pebble Beach, which is considered the most beautiful in the world.

New concept studies traditionally play a major role, and Audi is floating in the sky with the Skysphere Concept, so to speak.

The huge, all-electric five-meter roadster made its debut in California and was designed in nearby Malibu in the Audi design studio there.

It is the start of a total of three studies with which Audi conjures up the future.

In Munich at the IAA, the Grandsphere Concept is to show how the fine VW subsidiary imagines the luxury sedan of the future.

The Urbansphere, so to speak, the city car for 2025, is also in preparation. This study will come next year.

All three of course drive electrically and are proficient in level 4 autonomous driving.

The Skysphere is not only noticeable by its counter-rotating doors, it can change its wheelbase by 25 centimeters: It measures either 4.94 meters in Sports mode or 5.19 meters in GT mode.

Body and frame components can be moved into one another.

The electric motor delivers 465 kW (632 hp) to the steered rear axle and offers a maximum torque of 750 Newton meters.

An 80 kWh battery should make a range of 500 kilometers possible.

If the Audi of the future drives autonomously, the steering wheel and pedals will disappear.

In GT mode, the two passengers should be piloted and fully networked to participate in digital life.

Of course, the materials used in the interior are sustainable.

Real leather is now frowned upon, there is “leather surrogate”.
