It is the latest water source in the metropolitan area.

It was confirmed that a large amount of microplastics had flowed into Uiam Lake in Chuncheon, Gangwon, and when we looked at the cause, it was started when the paint on the pedestrian road in Gongjicheon Stream, a major tributary of Lake Uiam, was peeled off.

A research team at Kangwon National University revealed that at least 1.1 billion to 3700 trillion microplastics flowed into Lake Uiam in Chuncheon, and as a result of analyzing the plastics, the city of Chuncheon revealed that it was water-soluble paint that had been painted on Gongjicheon Stream, a major tributary of Lake Uiam, and then peeled off.

Earlier, from October to November last year, the city of Chuncheon painted the 1.7km section of the pedestrian passageway of Gongjicheon Stream, a major tributary of Lake Uiam, with blue water-soluble paint to prevent accidents by separating cyclists and pedestrians.

However, only four months after painting, the gray concrete floor was exposed, and the research team found that the paint peeled off easily because the paint was not finished properly, and it was abraded into fine particles and flowed into the Gongjicheon Stream.

He also feared that paint, which is a mixture of several chemicals, could metastasize to the ecosystem in a shorter period of time than ordinary microplastics and could be more lethal.
