Moderna recently had a setback in the supply of vaccines, the government explained that the total introduction amount for this year was set in the contract, but the monthly and quarterly supply schedules were set through consultation. So, to see if it's just us, or what other countries are like, we obtained and analyzed moderna vaccine contracts from the US and Europe.

Reporter Kim Deok-hyun explains this in detail.

<Reporter> The

moderna vaccine that the government signed a contract to import into Korea this year is 40 million doses.

Delays continued over the two months leading up to this month, with only 6% of them being introduced so far.

Still, the government explained that it was not a 'violation of contract'.

This is because, in the first place, only the annual unit introduction amount was set in the contract.

[Jung Eun-young/Jung Soo-bon, Director General of Vaccine Introduction (Yesterday): The amount of (vaccine) introduction within this year is specified in the contract. However, the specific monthly and quarterly supply schedules are usually set in consultation with pharmaceutical companies.] This

is a contract signed by the US government with Moderna in August of last year.

The total contract size and vaccine supply unit price are listed. In particular, although most of the supply information column is covered in black, it specifically includes the vaccine supply period and quantity for the next 9 months.

Last year's EU contract, which was revealed to the European press, is similar.

It is signed by Stefan Bansel, CEO of Moderna and the EU Health Commissioner, and each page of the contract is marked as 'sensitive material'.

In the 'Supply Schedule' item, it is written that 10 million servings will be supplied in the first quarter of this year and 35 million servings in the second and third quarters, respectively.

On the other hand, our contract does not specify such a timely or quarterly supply schedule, so even if there is a supply disruption, there is nothing we can do other than a simple complaint.

[Sohn Young-rae/Chief of Social Strategy Team, Central Accident Remediation Headquarters: If the supply delay is repeated, we express strong regret and protest about this as we are currently taking action... .]

As negotiations for next year's vaccine introduction are underway, some point out that the contract should be more specific.
