Booster Shot Controversy: Who's Right, Fauci or the World Health Organization?

To say this, we first need to pinpoint what a breakthrough infection is.

This is because the story that came out that the delta mutation broke through and infects even after being vaccinated twice is a booster shot.

Breakthrough infection is when a virus enters the body through antibodies and infects it.

Now, Janssen once, Pfizer and Moderna twice, and two weeks later, when the corona test PCR turns positive again, it is said to be a breakthrough infection.

That sounds right, right? But strictly speaking, it was wrong.

Because PCR test can tell if you have an infection, but you can't tell if you have antibodies or not.

That means you don't know if the antibody has broken through or not.

So, what is now called breakthrough infection?

Let's take a look at the data released by the UK government last month.

In a survey of 229,218 people infected with the delta mutation, a whopping 12.5% were inoculated.

When I looked at why, it was found that most of the infected had very few neutralizing antibodies.

It wasn't that the antibody was pierced, it was someone who didn't have enough antibodies.

In the end, in response to breakthrough infection, it is more important to have sufficient antibodies than whether or not to receive the vaccine.

If so, you might be wondering if only those who are lacking in the neutralizing antibody test should get it.

That's right, not now.

Antibody measurement, easy to do.

Last time, I was able to show it as a simple kit on the show.

The problem is that there is no standard for neutralizing antibodies yet.

It is useless to measure because there is no exact standard to determine how many antibodies are needed to be safe from Corona.

Each country is in the midst of deciding this, but some European countries have decided, and Korea and the United States have not yet decided.

It is a kind of void that will be resolved over time, but the delta mutation is not too serious to just let go.

When we looked at patients with breakthrough infections with the delta mutation, 75% were over 65 years of age.

Immunocompromised patients are more lethal, for example, those who received an organ transplant were 82 times more likely to have breakthrough infections and 485 times more fatal.

The delta mutation is breaking through the weaker link.

Let's go back to the beginning.

Need a booster shot? Required.

But not everyone needs it.

The booster shot is sufficient for the elderly 65 years of age or older, the high-risk group with weakened immunity, and the medical staff who received the vaccine early and the antibody expiration date is approaching.

After extinguishing the fire with a booster shot, if the neutralizing antibody standard is set later, those who lack antibodies can get another shot regardless of their age or condition.

But above all else, the most important issue right now is the smooth supply of vaccines.
