The quarantine authorities have diagnosed that if the spread of the Corona 19 delta mutant virus is amplified during the Liberation Day holiday, it is highly likely to develop into a large-scale epidemic that surpasses the fourth epidemic.

Jung Eun-kyung, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), warned today (13th) at a regular briefing on COVID-19, "If the delta virus is spread and amplified during the Liberation Day holiday, there is a very high risk that it will become a large-scale epidemic."

Commissioner Jeong said, "Since there have been more than 500 to 600 and more than 1,000 to 1,500 patients over a long period of time, there are a significant number of asymptomatic and mild infections in the community. can," he said.

“If we meet another amplifying factor in this situation, the size of the epidemic could increase more rapidly from the baseline of 2,000 people,” he said.

Commissioner Jeong predicted that the Corona 19 epidemic would continue for the time being due to the characteristics of the delta mutant virus and the seasonal factors such as summer vacation and vacation season.

Commissioner Jeong said, "There are around 1,900 confirmed cases, but the opinion of us and experts is that it is difficult to see now as the peak of the epidemic.

Commissioner Jeong evaluated that the exponential increase in the number of confirmed cases was prevented by strengthening social distancing.

“If you look at the UK, Israel, and the US, the rate of increase in the number of confirmed cases increased by more than 10 times as the share of the delta mutation increased, but in Korea, it increased about threefold, from 500 to 600 to around 1,900.” I think that social distancing and public participation contributed to preventing the surge," he said.

However, he added, "If the number of confirmed cases around 2,000 continues, the medical burden will increase due to the increase in severe cases, which may affect general intensive care," he added.
