Some automakers know that halving the number of wheels can double the fun of getting around.

That's why they have scooters in their range.

For those who are authorized to move a light motorcycle, Seat offers the electric Mo 125 at prices from 6700 euros. It has it all, namely a thick battery pack that can be removed.

This is also possible with some other electric scooters and is particularly useful if the owner does not have a garage with a socket to charge his vehicle. That's a good reason not to get a vehicle like this in the city, even though it might actually be the ideal vehicle for it. The others, of course, usually come as mopeds that do not need high performance and therefore get by with comparatively small battery packs, whereas the heavy-weight energy dispenser is built into strong scooters.

But Seat is going its own way and packs the lithium-ion battery with a nominal voltage of 51 volts in a kind of suitcase that, with its dimensions of 33x27x44 centimeters, could almost pass as hand luggage.

However, there can be no question of easy transport, the package with a nominal energy content of 5.6 kWh weighs a whopping 41 kilos and should also be moved carefully.

If you don't lift weights every day, you won't get the run up the stairs unless in the elevator.

This actually works, because the battery rolls on wheels that fold out automatically when it is removed from its side guide.

The battery is full again after six hours at the socket

To do this, a lever is pulled under the bench that unlocks the package, and a telescopic handle is pulled out like with a travel case, the battery pack can then be moved as a trolley as long as it is level. A light ring shows the state of health and the state of charge. It goes without saying that it can also be charged when it is installed; the supplied cable with a 3-pin plug for the battery and 230 volt Schuko on the mains side is of course quite short. With a charging power of around 600 watts, the battery is full in around six hours, and the measuring device shows a tick more than 5 kWh. The concept lends itself to an exchange system, the relatively thick battery gives the Mo 125 interesting ranges at the same time. The wheel hub motor has 7 kW continuous and 9 kW peak output, so the 152 kilo scooter should move quickly, up to 137 kilometers. It can be. Admittedly only in eco mode, which dampens the liveliness and top speed so badly that we only want to recommend it when it is otherwise difficult to come home.

It is more realistic to move the Mo in City mode.

It is just right for comfortable driving in the city and on winding roads across the country, the engine responds gently, but directly and powerfully.

In this mode there is no recuperation when the accelerator is released, the scooter uses its momentum and glides along without significant resistance.

Electrical energy is still recovered, namely when braking, the transition from recuperation to the vicious service brake is imperceptible.

There is nothing to complain about on that one, only an ABS is missing so far.

A range of 100 kilometers is possible - as long as you save yourself the motorway tour

City mode is not enough for fast country roads and motorways, where full power is needed. As soon as you switch to sport, the response of the engine becomes toxic, with the handle turned back, the Mo exercises itself just as spontaneously in violent recuperation. So you are sporty and almost rough on the road, admittedly the propulsion ends at the truck speed. According to the manufacturer, 64 km / h are reached in Eco, and in this mode the Mo recuperates gently. In the city, 80 are promised, and the achievable top speed is given as 95 km / h. In fact, display 101 is reached quickly on the somewhat dreary but informative display, and the speed hardly drops even uphill.

The speedometer is lying. In fact, our test specimen was no faster than a well-moving truck at 87 km / h, so driving on the motorway ends in stress. There is also a heat problem, because the very small warning light flashed after a few kilometers despite the moderate temperatures, and the engine then throttles its output. He also does that when the contents of the battery are running low, but only shortly before the door closes. The range display is realistic, it takes the mode into account. With full utilization of the power, we came 85 kilometers, but the odometer shows around ten percent too much. If the vehicle is mainly used without a motorway, a range of more than 100 kilometers is possible and costs around 1.50 euros.

The chassis is beyond any doubt, even longitudinal grooves do not disturb it, but it is bone-hard, so that it is better to circumnavigate lowered manhole covers. But the Mo shines with nice details: space for two helmets under the seat, adjustable handbrake levers, LED lights, USB sockets and an app with many functions. And as a delicacy, there is even a reverse gear.
