Mercedes-Benz has announced its intention to switch to an electric vehicle brand by the end of the decade and market conditions permitting.

The luxury car company is spurring its way into a software-driven, carbon-neutral future by shifting from a focus on electric vehicles primarily to a fully electrified company.

Mercedes-Benz aims to produce battery-electric vehicles in all its segments by 2022. From 2025, all new models offered by the brand will be specifically designed for electric vehicles, and customers will have the opportunity to choose an all-electric alternative from all models manufactured by the company. Mercedes-Benz intends to manage this rapid transformation while maintaining its profit margin targets.

"The automotive sector is witnessing an acceleration in the transition to electric vehicles, particularly in the luxury segment to which the Mercedes-Benz brand belongs," said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. We will be well prepared to keep pace with the market's transition towards fully electric vehicles by the end of this decade. This represents a radical reallocation of capital. By managing this rapid transformation while maintaining our profitability goals, we will ensure the continued success of the brand. With our qualified workforce Passionate about work, I am completely confident in our ability to succeed and advance in this new era.”

In order to facilitate the transformation process, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a comprehensive plan that includes accelerating the pace of research and development. It is estimated that the total value of investments that the company will make in the field of battery-powered cars between 2022 and 2030 will amount to more than 40 billion euros. Accelerating the pace of building the company's portfolio of electric cars and expanding its points will lead to a quantum leap in the process of shifting towards the adoption of electric cars.
