Kim Hyun-ah, a candidate for president of the Seoul Housing and Urban Corporation (SH), who caused controversy over the multi-housing controversy, resigned voluntarily.

Candidate Kim announced his resignation by leaving a two-sentence message on the social networking service (SNS) today (1st) saying, "I am resigning as the SH president candidate. I am sorry to all the people who supported and criticized me."

Candidate Kim and her husband own four properties, including an apartment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul and a shopping mall in Jamwon-dong, Seocho-gu.

At the city council's personnel hearing on the 27th of last month, he explained, "It was easier to buy my house than it is now for my age, and I received a kind of privilege of the times, which increases my assets as house prices rise."

The next day, the Seoul City Council voted on the report of the personnel hearing that contained the opinion that Kim was 'inappropriate'.

He announced on the 29th that he would sell Busan apartments and officetels out of 4 real estate holdings, but criticism did not subside.

In a statement on the 30th, the Democratic Party of the City Council urged candidate Kim to resign voluntarily, saying it was "the highest level in history", citing that candidate Kim strongly criticized the multi-family houses of former presidential chief of staff Roh Young-min.

On the same day, the city council expressed their support for the People's Power, but Representative Hong Jun-pyo, the party's presidential candidate, urged Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to withdraw the nomination of Kim, saying, "It is an inappropriate exercise to appoint a multi-residential person to be in charge of supplying low-income housing." I did.

The mayor of Seoul can appoint the SH president regardless of the outcome of the city council hearing, but it appears that Kim has chosen to step down as the criticism has grown.

He is the first agency head appointed by Mayor Oh since he took office in April.

Since the first appointment of the head of the agency, there was a controversy, and setbacks in Mayor Oh's policy implementation became inevitable.

There is also an opinion that the Seoul Metropolitan Government may not have taken the multi-housing issue lightly, given that candidate Kim's multi-housing has been known since the time of the disclosure of the property of the National Assembly member last year.

An official from Seoul said, "I knew that I owned 4 real estate, but there was a limit to understanding the purpose and details of holding the real estate." said.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to nominate new candidates as soon as possible.

A city official said, "We will select candidates who meet the needs of the people so that there will be no disruption to Seoul's real estate policy."
