After news broke that healthy zucchini was being scrapped from its production area in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do, orders from across the country are on the rise.

A tractor passes over the zucchini piled up in the field and crushes them.

Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do started disposing of zucchini production areas on the 22nd.

This is because, while the production of zucchini increased as the drought-free and sunny weather continued, consumption fell sharply, such as a decrease in school lunches due to COVID-19.

As the news broke that farmers were crying and eating mustard, orders poured in from all over the country through online shopping malls.

According to Hwacheon-gun yesterday (26th), orders for 112 tons of zucchini came in from the day before yesterday morning.

This is equivalent to the amount shipped from Hwacheon to the Garak-dong market for a week, and more than half of the 213 tons that the government and the Nonghyup originally planned to discard were sold in one day.

Hwacheon-gun expressed its gratitude that many people touched the pain of the farmers, but there is still an analysis that it is too early to feel relieved considering the expected amount of waste and the characteristics of the distribution structure.
