A couple who left their 1-year-old son with poor eyesight without taking him to the hospital, leading to blindness, have been sentenced to prison.
The Incheon District Court sentenced 40-year-old A and his wife, 24-year-old B, each accused of child abuse, to three years in prison and ordered them to complete an 80-hour child abuse treatment program.
The court said, "If I had followed the repeated recommendations of child protection agencies and hospitals in a timely manner, the physical damage could have been prevented." stated the reason.
The couple were indicted on charges of causing blindness by neglecting their second son, Group C, who was 1 year old at the time, in February 2019 without taking him to the hospital even though his eyesight was damaged.
Currently, group C is known to be living in a facility for children with disabilities due to visual impairment and brain lesion disorders.
