The government once again apologized for the early closing of the pre-registration for COVID-19 vaccination for 55-59-year-olds in 15 hours and a half on the first day of yesterday (12th).

Lee Sang-won, head of the Epidemiological Investigation and Analysis Team of the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters, said at a regular briefing today, "There was a lot of confusion because we could not inform you about the situation that an early closing of vaccination reservations may be possible.

Director Lee said, “Considering the vaccine introduction and delivery schedule, reservations were made within the quantity that could be inoculated with stability.” “Moderna vaccine is introduced every week, and this (early closing) situation occurred this month due to fluctuations in the introduction situation this month. We did not notify in advance that there is a limit on the amount of reservations."

He continued, "We are working hard to advance the reservation resumption schedule, which was originally announced on the 19th, and we will inform you about the future schedule as soon as it is ready." We will give the opportunity to proceed without any setbacks,” he said.

In addition, he added, "Vaccinations in July and August will be mainly conducted with Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and the inoculation volume will be sufficiently introduced."

About 3,524,000 people aged 55 to 59 are eligible for vaccination, but advance reservations are temporarily suspended as they only receive reservations for the 1.85 million moderna vaccines that the government is expected to secure.

Park Hye-kyung, head of the Vaccination Implementation Division of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, said, "Considering the previous reservation rate, we assume that 80% or more of the current age group will make reservations. I did.

Also, for those 50-54 years old, who will be making reservations in the future, he said, "We are looking for various methods such as sequential reservations so that reservations are not interrupted."
