There was another unfortunate accident at the industrial site last night (9th). At a steel factory in Busan, a worker in his 50s was caught in a machine he was checking and died.

This is reporter Jo Yoon-ha.

<Reporter> It

is a steel company in Saha-gu, Busan.

At around 11:30 last night, a 119 report was received from the factory saying "the worker got caught in the machine."

A 53-year-old employee was caught in a rebar tying machine, and was already dead when the rescue team arrived.

[Busan Saha Fire Station Employee: We estimate that he died on the spot because he got caught in a machine at the scene (we estimate)] The

machine in which the accident occurred is a binding machine that bundles thirty or forty eight-meter-long reinforcing bars.

When a rebar is put into the machine, 4 places are tightened at the same time, and the rebar was not tied up in one of them, so Mr. A went to check it himself.

Mr. A got his head caught in a machine that suddenly operated during the inspection.

It is said that he was wearing safety equipment such as a hard hat at the time of the accident.

The police are investigating how they went to inspect the machine without turning off the power against on-site safety managers.

In the steel industry, six workers have already been sacrificed this year alone.

In February, at Dongkuk Steel's Busan plant, a worker got caught in a steel coil and died, and in May, a worker at Hyundai Steel in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do died in an accident while inspecting on-site facilities alone.

Ahead of the enforcement of the Severe Accident Punishment Act in January next year, steel companies have come up with preventive measures to prevent accidents, but there are voices calling for a fundamental re-examination as the number of fatal accidents continues.
