The Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters announced that as of 00:00 today (8th), the number of new confirmed cases increased by 1,275, bringing the total to 164,28.



The number rose by 63 from yesterday (1,212), the highest number in about a year and a half since January 20, last year, when the first confirmed case of Corona 19 in Korea.



It is the first time for two days in a row to have more than 1,200 confirmed cases.



In addition, the number of 1,275 is 35 more than the 1,240 on December 25, last year, which was the peak of the 'third wave' and the previous record.



As the COVID-19 continues to spread, the pressure to strengthen 'social distancing' is expected to increase.



If the situation worsens, the government is also planning to review the new 4th stage of distancing in the metropolitan area.



Level 4 is the highest level of new distancing, and after 6pm, gatherings of up to two people (no private gatherings of more than three people) are allowed, and events such as briefing sessions and commemorative ceremonies are prohibited at all.



In addition, gatherings and events other than single-person demonstrations will be completely banned, and only relatives will be able to attend weddings and funerals.



Until last month, the number of new confirmed cases climbed up and down a wide range of stagnant between 300 and 700 people, but it started to surge in this month and soared to 1,200, indicating that the 'fourth pandemic' is in full swing.



From the 2nd to today, the number of new confirmed cases per day is 825 → 794 → 743 → 711 → 746 → 1212 → 1,275 per day.

With an average of about 901 confirmed cases per day for one week, the daily average of local confirmed cases is about 843.



The route of infection of today's new confirmed cases is 1227 local cases and 48 overseas inflows.



There are also 12 more local confirmed cases than the previous record of 1,215 (December 25 last year).



By region, 545 people in Seoul, 388 people in Gyeonggi, and 61 people in Incheon, the metropolitan area had 994 people (81.0%).



The number of confirmed cases in the metropolitan area was 900 for two consecutive days following yesterday (990).



The confirmed cases in the metropolitan area accounted for more than 80% of the total local confirmed cases for the ninth day since the 30th of last month.



In the past week, the average number of confirmed cases per day is about 692, which is already in the 3rd stage (more than 500) based on the new distance.



For non-metropolitan areas, Chungnam 77, Busan 55, Jeju 17, Gangwon 15, Daegu 14, Daejeon 12, Ulsan and Chungbuk 8 each, Gyeongnam and Jeonnam 7 each, Sejong and Gyeongbuk 4 each, Jeonbuk 3 A total of 233 people (19.0%) including 2 people in Gwangju and 2 people in Gwangju.

In connection with the elementary school in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, a total of 26 people have been confirmed so far, and 10 people have also tested positive in a sauna in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do.



At the Nonsan Army Training Center, the largest recruit training institution in the military, there were 53 confirmed cases as of yesterday.
