Former Mayor Oh Keo-don repeatedly apologized to the victim, but during the trial, he insisted that it was an accidental mistake, and claimed that he was diagnosed with dementia.

It looked like he was trying to reduce the cost of his crime, but the court did not accept any of those arguments.

Former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don confessed to sexual harassment in April of last year and asked for a second offense against the victim.

[Keo-don Oh / Former Mayor of Busan (April last year): Journalists and citizens, please protect the victim so that he does not get hurt again.

All the fault lies solely with me.]

However, since then, Mayor Oh's appearance was different from these words.

He formed a luxurious defense team from the chief of the district court and actively defended it.

After showing an apology in public,

[Keo-don Oh/Former Busan Mayor (May of last year): I feel sorry for the victim as well.]

When the trial began, I sent a letter to the victim asking for an agreement, and the sentence was commuted. The trial was postponed twice, including asking for a sentencing investigation.

Health issues were also raised in the closing argument.

"I'm in my 70s, so I'm not sensitive to gender, and I've been diagnosed with dementia, so I'm on medication."

However, this argument did not prevail in court.

Judging from the data submitted by Mayor A, it is difficult to see that there was a cognitive impairment at the time of the crime, and it was determined that it was not accidental or one-time sexual harassment.

He also pointed out that the victim must have felt very humiliated and shocked by what he experienced with the head of the organization while he was defenseless.

Although the sentence did not meet the victim's expectations, there were also evaluations that it was a judgment that officially recognized the suffering of victims of sexual violence as injuries.
