"Audi" announces the date for stopping production of "combustion" engines... the transition to electricity

Starting in 2026, the luxury car company Audi will launch only new fully electric models in global markets.

Audi is also accelerating the transition to electric mobility, as part of a strategic realignment of its operations, and will phase out internal combustion engines until 2033. Audi aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

"Audi offers customers sustainable and carbon-free mobility options thanks to its ability to innovate," Audi CEO Markus Dussmann said at the Berlin climate conference.

He added, "I do not see the point of forcibly banning internal combustion engines; rather, I see that advanced technologies and innovation will push people to abandon them."

The actual timing of Audi's discontinuation of these engines will be determined by customers and future regulations.

The company expects to see continued demand in China for cars equipped with combustion engines beyond the year 2033, so that these cars can continue to be manufactured and sold locally.

At the same time, Audi is significantly expanding its all-electric model range. The company will already introduce more electric cars this year than those equipped with internal combustion engines, including the e-tron GT, RS e-tron GT and Q4 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback e-tron.

The company also aims to have more than 20 electric models in its model range by 2025.

"Thanks to this roadmap, we have the clear vision needed to move decisively and forcefully into the era of electric mobility, and we clearly show that Audi is ready for this stage," added Dussmann.

Audi will also continue to make every effort to develop combustion engines until they are completely discontinued, while working to improve current generations of engines to achieve maximum efficiency and customer benefit. One fact is certain, Dussmann said: "The last internal combustion engine from Audi will be the best we've ever made."
