June 20th.

It sounds like any other day, but it is far from it.

It's called

Yellow Day, and it's the happiest day of the year.

"It is the first time I have heard it," was Mary Carmen's response when she learned of the existence of this celebration.

Her husband Ángel, after listening to the conversation, is also interested in the topic: "And why is it happening just today?"

The responses of this family and of many of you are easy to resolve.

We are at the gates of summer, at a time when temperatures rise and the sun shines every morning when we wake up.

These are dates where you can breathe the aroma of the holidays, the well-deserved rest, the meetings with our loved ones and more now that the restrictions due to the pandemic are ending.

All this greatly improves our spirits and good humor.

And to top it off, on June 20, spring says goodbye and the summer solstice begins, which is crowned

the longest day of the year.

This set of variables has motivated psychologists and experts to consider it "the happiest day".

In addition, it is also called "yellow day", because this color is a symbol of happiness and optimism.

And although we are ranked 27th among the happiest countries, according to the WHO annual happiness report, there are tricks to wake us up on a "Yellow Day".

Marta de la Fuente,

a health psychologist at the Human Area Psychology Center, is committed to learning to value what we have: "Every day,

stop for a moment to remember what you have:

a home, a job, a friend ... value the city or the town where you live, the temperature it is, being healthy, living in Spain, what a lucky person you are. Change the focus of your attention and don't fall for comparisons. "

Pexel

He also advises "to go out every day, flee from sedentary lifestyle and take care of the people you have by your side, in addition to promoting your social network."

Although one of the most important tricks for Marta, in addition to being shown to lengthen life, is to

smile: "The smile has an extraordinary power to generate pleasant emotions

and help us feel better if we practice it," he adds.

Likewise, explains

María Dolores Martín Díaz,

professor and researcher in the Department of Basic Psychology II of the UNED, "what makes people happy depends on too many factors and many individual differences."

For this reason, he proposes a series of works that contain various keys to achieve happiness.

One of them is the book "The Track to Happiness: How to Apply the Science of Happiness to Accelerate Your Success", by Stanford University psychologist

Emma Seppälä.

As this author confessed in an interview on CBS News, today we live in a constant "existence", where happiness is measured based on achievements and objectives, without enjoying the journey.

For this reason, he recommends living in the present and not thinking about the future to avoid the pressure of meeting many goals;

give up the stress of accepting that we cannot change certain situations in our work or our personal life and become more resilient;

learn to be calm and do breathing and meditation exercises;

be kind and altruistic with others and with yourself, being less self-critical and competitive;

and finally enjoy the moments of boredom or rest, essential for the body.

THE NEW CONCERNS

The "Yellow Day" is the antithesis of the better known

"Blue Monday",

January 17, the saddest day of the year.

Holidays are over, winter is coming and cold days are more frequent.

Converting these days into "yellow Days" is not easy, but it is not impossible either.

"One of the main recommendations in those moments is the search for a purpose, goals, illusions where to channel our energy. But that these are achievable and small so that we can progress little by little. For example, a sport, learn a language, doing crafts, volunteering, planning trips, training courses, etc. ", explains Marta.

After a year of pandemic, it is these small everyday goals or gestures that now make us happy.

"We started to appreciate what we used to take for granted, a hug, a kiss,

a walk, being with our loved ones ... Little things that seemed irrelevant until COVID-19 changed it completely and made it the most precious of goods ".

Since January, this specialist

began to notice more exhaustion, overload and a certain hopelessness in many of her patients.

With the pandemic, fear, uncertainty and feelings of vulnerability increased, weakening spirits and happiness.

In addition to the existing concerns, new ones were added that still persist, such as fear for the well-being of our relatives, uncertainty about vaccination ...

As research conducted by the Gallup Organization of Princeton demonstrated a few years ago, those who are happier, live longer and are healthier.

THE 12 COMMANDMENTS OF HAPPINESS

María Dolores refers to "Objective: Happiness", a book by the American author Gretchen Rubin that lists the 12 commandments to achieve happiness:

1. Be yourself.

Accept what you like and what you don't like.

2. Let it pass.

Few things really matter in the long run.

3. Act the way you want to feel.

Regulating actions directly influences feelings.

4. Do it now.

Achieving a goal releases chemical compounds in the brain that give you pleasure.

5. Be polite and fair.

Life is short and we never have enough time to rejoice the hearts of the people who are with us.

6. Enjoy the process.

It is better to find happiness on the way, instead of waiting for the goal.

7. Spend and save less.

Trust in abundance.

8. Identify the problems and ask yourself what is bothering you.

9. Take everything but seriously and be more capable of having fun.

10. Do what you have to do, both in difficult and ordinary matters.

11. Don't count.

Avoid signing up so many in life.

We subconsciously overestimate our contributions to other people's lives.

12. In the end there is only love.

You need to pay attention to taste and enjoy love.
