Firefighting at the Coupang Logistics Center in Icheon, which occurred at dawn yesterday (17th), continues for the second day. A decision on whether to resume the search for the missing firefighters will be decided after a safety assessment is completed.

Correspondent Choi Seon-gil reports.

<Reporter> The

fire was somewhat subdued due to the light rain from all night long, but black smoke continued to blow out from the entire building.

A fire at the Coupang Logistics Center in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do occurred at around 5:30 am yesterday.

The fire started on the 2nd basement floor of a building with 4 stories above ground and 2 stories below ground.

Due to the nature of the distribution center, there are many boxes, plastics, and parcels that are easily flammable, so it is difficult to evolve.

The fire department said that the possibility of the building collapsing cannot be ruled out because the two-story steel structure is bent.

Because of this, the rescue operation for the missing fire chief who was put into the building yesterday has also been stopped.

Fire cop Kim from the Gwangju Fire Department in Gyeonggi-do was unable to escape the fire alone while evacuating with four junior firefighters as the fire suddenly re-spread yesterday during the day.

The fire department is planning to resume the search for Kim after conducting a safety diagnosis on the building to see the risk of collapse.

However, as the fire has not been extinguished, safety diagnosis has not yet begun.

[Park Soo-jong / Icheon Fire Station Disaster Prevention Division: We cannot determine how long the safety diagnosis will take. After the safety diagnosis has been made, the crew can enter.]

After the fire is extinguished, the police and fire department will investigate the cause of the fire and whether the sprinkler is operating normally through on-site forensics.
