It is called ransomware, a malware that encrypts computer data and destroys it.

Repair technicians who secretly installed the malicious code they created on the customer's computer were caught by the police.

The ransomware was installed while pretending to fix the computer by visiting a company that made a business trip repair request.

They then deceived the hackers into sending money to the companies that asked for repairs again because of the ransomware.

And they took that money, and they also scammed companies that had been attacked by ransomware by other hackers.

They said they would negotiate with the hackers on their behalf, and they intercepted the difference by receiving more money than the real hackers asked for.

A total of nine repairmen were caught for extorting money like this.

From the end of 2019 to March of this year, they collected over 360 million won from 40 companies.

If you are attacked by ransomware, the police urged you to report it to the police immediately and back up important data regularly, rather than sending money to a hacker or leaving it to a repair company.
