Even if there are more days off due to a change in the law, there are many workers in Korea who cannot rest comfortably.

Reporter Park Hyun-seok pointed out the parts that should not be missed when discussing social issues on days off, 'in fact'.

Most of the days off as we know them are 'public' holidays, meaning that public offices are closed, and are stipulated by a presidential decree that is one step below the law.

So, it was originally a day off for public officials, but it was not necessarily a day off for general corporations.

Then, three years ago, the Labor Standards Act was changed to ensure that general companies also guarantee public holidays as paid holidays, that is, days off with paid wages.

To recap, according to the Labor Standards Act, Labor Day on May 1 is a statutory holiday and it is stipulated that one day a week should be set as a weekly holiday.

Here, there are 15 more public holidays, including the Lunar New Year, Chuseok holidays, and various anniversaries.

Recently, the National Assembly is trying to change this rather complicated holiday system.

The first direction is to take another day off if it overlaps with the weekend.

Currently, the alternative holidays guaranteed only for the Lunar New Year, Chuseok holidays and Children's Day are to be greatly expanded.

The second is to set a day of the week instead of a date to rest.

For example, like US public holidays, let's designate holidays like what day of the week, what week, what month.

However, the problem is that there are a lot of workers who are not able to get a proper rest even with this system change.

There are differences depending on the size of the business.

For more than 300 people, it has been applied since last year, for more than 30 people from this year, and those with 5-30 people can take a break from next year.

However, there are no measures for small businesses with fewer than 5 employees.

It employs about 3 million people. When families are included, the number of people unable to rest on time increases.

[Kim Kang-jae / Worker with less than 5 employees: (Actually) I think it is a story from another country. If you just keep saying that it has nothing to do with us, you feel a relatively sense of deprivation.]

However, it is not here that the National Assembly should listen more to this 84%, but these 16% of workers who will feel a greater sense of relative deprivation. You have to think about whether or not it is.

Due to the fact that it is a small business, many of the provisions of the Labor Standards Act are recognized as exceptions.

Also, we need to discuss together how the burden of business owners, which is bound to increase due to the expansion of public holidays, can be rationally divided and what the government should help.
