Belgian ambassador to Korea, Peter Rescui, stood in front of reporters two months after his wife assaulted a store employee.

Belgian ambassador Peter Lescuie attended the meeting of the ambassador to Korea on the topic of hate and racism hosted by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea on the 11th at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul.

Ambassador Rescuie replied, "I have nothing more to say" to a reporter who asked about his position on his wife's assault.

Ambassador Rescuie said, "I am still an incumbent ambassador, so my official position is all that was announced by the embassy." He said, "I have nothing to say personally."

In particular, referring to the official statement issued by the embassy in May, he added, "Nothing has changed from the position at that time."

The Belgian embassy said in a statement in May that the ambassador's wife had waived diplomatic immunity.

He said, "I have decided to renounce immunity at the request of the Korean police," he said. "The current situation makes it difficult for the ambassador to perform his role smoothly, so his term will end this summer."

Earlier, Ambassador Rescuie's wife was arrested on April 9th at a clothing store in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the back of an employee and slapped on the cheek of another employee who was drying it.
