The TikTok social network can breathe again.

The latter will not ultimately be banned from the United States, as Donald Trump wished when he still held the post of American president.

The current head of the country, Joe Biden, indeed announced this Wednesday, June 9 the cancellation of the measures taken by his predecessor.

A large investigation will still have to be conducted to determine the risks posed by this application, but also several other apps owned by foreign powers, including the WeChat app.

The American president has in fact signed a new executive order aimed at identifying "connected software applications that may present an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States and the American people".

"Applications owned, controlled or managed by people who support the military or intelligence activities of another country, or are involved in malicious cyber activities, or involve applications that collect sensitive personal data" are also affected by this new decree, as reported by AFP.

The United States is not letting its guard down

Joe Biden also wants guidelines developed to "protect sensitive personal data, including personally identifiable information and genetic information" to prevent abuse.

Donald Trump had indeed accused TikTok of jeopardizing the personal information of American users on behalf of China.

The real estate mogul thus forced the sale of TikTok to American investors.

Last February, the Biden administration decided to put the sales process on hold, in order to explore other options to ensure the security of the data of American users.

And it looks like a solution has been found.
