Choi Seo-won, who is serving a sentence in the Park Geun-hye administration's state-run nongdan incident, has requested a special pardon from former President Park Geun-hye from President Moon Jae-in.

Choi, who is currently serving a sentence in Cheongju Women's Prison, sent a letter to President Moon last month asking for the pardon of former President Park.

In the letter, Mr. Choi is said to have written, "It has been over four years since President Park was detained. I hope that the exhausted person will be pardoned so that he can stay at home."

The Blue House forwarded the matter to the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Justice sent an official letter to Choi at the end of last month as a result of handling complaints to the effect that "pardon is a matter of the president's sole authority, and we will refer to it for future amnesty work."

The Ministry of Justice explained, "There were a lot of complaints related to the amnesty, so we responded as usual."
