Vice Justice Lee Yong-gu, who recently expressed his resignation, was summoned by the police today (30th) and is being investigated.

He is accused of asking the taxi driver to delete the black box video in connection with the assault case six months ago.

Let's connect with a reporter at the investigation site.

Reporter Seong-hee Han, is the investigation into Lee still ongoing?

<Reporter>

Yes, Vice Justice Lee Yong-gu appeared here as a suspect at the anti-corruption and public crime investigation team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency at around 8 am today.

The investigation has been running for 12 hours and is expected to last until late tonight.

Vice Minister Lee Yong-koo is being investigated by the police on charges of destroying evidence in connection with a drunken assault on a taxi driver in November last year, three weeks before the appointment of vice minister.

At the time, Vice Minister Lee is accused of offering a settlement to the taxi driver and demanding that the black box video of the assault be deleted.

The police, who have already finished investigating the victim and collecting data, plan to finish the related investigation soon after receiving Lee's statement today.

incident, are you also looking into the suspicion that the Seocho Police Station conducted a caring investigation?

<Reporter>

Yes, at the time of the incident, the police applied simple assault charges for the reason that they had an agreement with the taxi driver, the victim, and ended the internal investigation without even filing a case.

In addition, the situation was revealed one after another that Seocho Police Station officials were aware of the existence of the assault video and knew that Vice Minister Lee was mentioned as the first candidate for the Airborne Division.

When the suspicion of a caring investigation surfaced, the police formed a fact-finding team in January and recently booked three Seocho Police Station officials on charges of negligence.

Apart from the police investigation, the prosecution also re-investigated Lee's assault charges and completed the summons investigation on the 22nd.

There is a lot of interest in whether the full story of the taxi driver assault case will be revealed soon.
