The police investigating the death of Jeong-min Son, a college student who was found missing and dead in Han River Park, said that there was no evidence of using data such as internet or apps on Son's mobile phone after 1 am on the day of the disappearance.
The police said, "As a result of forensicizing Mr. Son's mobile phone, it was confirmed that there was no internet/app usage history after the last web search at 1:09 am on the 25th of last month."
The police also explained, "Even when the mobile phone is not in use, the carrier also received a reply that data call history may occur due to automatic syncing or running background apps," he explained.
Son and friend A, who had been drinking with him at the time, fell asleep in Banpo Hangang Park in the early morning of the 25th of last month, then woke up at around 4:30 in the morning and went home alone with Son's mobile phone.
Afterwards, A returned to the Hangang Park to find Mr. Son with his family, and at around 5:40 am, Mr. A returned the mobile phone to Mr. Son's parents.
Some have raised suspicion that Mr. A continued to use the mobile phone right before returning it based on the data usage history of the mobile phone.
Mr. A's mobile phone was turned off at around 7 am on the day of the disappearance and has not been found until now.
Regarding Mr. A's mobile phone, the police said, "After analyzing the location of Mr. A's mobile phone since 3:37 am on the 25th of last month when Mr. A spoke with his parents, the Han River continues from the time of this call to 7:02 am when the power was turned off. It was confirmed that it was around the park.
The police called Mr. A the day before and said that it was the seventh time since he disappeared.
Regarding the fake news spreading around this case, he said, "We give priority to discovering the actual truth of the case, but we are constantly watching the situation related to the fake news."
The police commissioned the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to conduct a comparative analysis of the soil composition collected from the socks worn by Mr. Son at the time of his death, and the soil composition of the lawn along the Han River and under the water, and is waiting for the result.
