"

We must vaccinate with a third dose all people at risk from the end of the summer,

 " said the CEO of

Moderna

, the French Stéphane Bancel

on Sunday

. In this

interview with the

JDD

, he also specifies that from next week, the

Moderna

vaccine

will be used in France

outside of vaccination centers

, by doctors and pharmacists.

This is one more step towards accessibility of vaccines and “

group immunity

 ”.

This third dose, already mentioned by other laboratories and for which studies have been launched, is an opportunity for individuals at risk, according to Professor Djillali Annane, head of the intensive care unit at Raymond-Poincaré hospital.

“

For most individuals who have a competent immune system, these two injections allow a duration of vaccine-induced protection of about a year, at least.

Nevertheless, we realized that for people who have a more fragile immune system, these patients will have a shorter duration of protection linked to the vaccination

 , ”he summarizes.

In addition, with the different variants of

Covid-19

, which can be more or less resistant to a vaccine, it is better to be careful, according to him.

“

The variants, and in particular the Indian variant, can reduce the effectiveness of vaccination in the most fragile people.

Here again, another reason for making this third injection.
