A mother in her 30s who inhaled methamphetamine in front of her young child was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

Incheon District Court Judge Jin-won Kim sentenced 35-year-old A, who was accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act and the Child Welfare Act, to complete a child abuse treatment program of one year and six months in prison and 40 hours.

Mr. A was charged with taking methamphetamine in front of a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter in the home room of Incheon on January 27 at about 9 am.

It has been investigated since 2018 that Mr. A used methamphetamine in front of his children.

Mr. A showed himself in a hallucinating state and told his son, "You must not tell anyone until you die."

Mr. A claimed that he had never deliberately shown methamphetamine medications to his children or abused them physically or mentally.

Judge Kim, however, judged Mr. A's behavior as an act of emotional abuse by'unwritten intentional'.

Judge Kim explained the reason for the ruling, “I took methamphetamine even though I knew the children were seeing it,” and “the defendant's behavior in itself poses a risk to the child's mental health and development.”

Judge Kim stated the reason for the sentence, saying, "The children seem to have suffered considerable trauma and suffering," and "the defendant reflected on his faults and considered the fact that he had a family to support."
