According to the quarantine authorities, this nursing assistant working at a hospital in Gyeonggi Province was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, an immune response-related disease, after receiving AstraZeneca vaccine on March 12.

Immediately after vaccination, he suffered from a headache for a week, and on March 24, he had symptoms of'binocular diplopia', and after being admitted to the hospital on the 31st, he had even quadriplegia.

The investigation team previously deliberated on this case at a meeting held on the 23rd of last month, but held the decision because it was necessary to confirm the results of additional tests in order to confirm the patient's exact diagnosis.

Jeong Eun-kyung, head of the promotion team (Director of the Korea Disease Management Administration) said, "There is not enough information to evaluate the causality of these cases at home and abroad so far," he said. "I think it will be classified as a target for the newly created medical expenses support."

Meanwhile, the promotion team temporarily supported medical expenses up to 10 million won per person from the 17th for severely ill patients who were excluded from compensation due to insufficient grounds to determine causality with the vaccine, although adverse reactions occurred after vaccination.
