The last prosecutor-general candidate of the Moon Jae-in administration is unveiled today (29th).

The Prosecutor General's Candidate Recommendation Committee (hereinafter referred to as nomination committee) holds a meeting at the Gwacheon Government Complex of the Ministry of Justice from 10 am today to compress candidates for the president.

The meeting is presided over by the chairman, Sang Sang Park, former Minister of Justice.

The candidates were judged by Hyung-Doo Kim, Deputy Chief of the Court Administration Department, Jong-Yup Lee, Chairman of the Korean Bar Association, Ki-Jung Han, Chairman of the Law School Council, Young-Hwan Jeong, Deputy Chairman of the Korean Law School, Jeong-Soo Lee, Prosecutor General of the Ministry of Justice, Tae-Gi Gil, Vice-President of Inha University, Won Hye-wook, Vice-Chancellor of Inha University, and Professor Anjin of Chonnam National University Law School. Participate.

Earlier, on the 26th, the Ministry of Justice handed over the list of 14 people recommended by the public and basic data to the recommendation committee.

Among these, those who do not consent to personnel verification, such as Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon, are excluded from the final evaluation.

The recommendation committee is expected to conclude the Moon Jae-in administration's reform of the prosecution and recommend a leader who will lead the prosecution organization stably as candidates.

Trust within and outside the prosecution is also a criterion that cannot be ignored.

The biggest concern is whether Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office Lee Seong-yoon, who was a promising next president and is in danger of being prosecuted for an illegal departure by Kim Hak-eui, a former Vice Minister of Justice, will be included in the candidate army.

In the legal and political circles, it is widely observed that the appointment of the District Prosecutor General has become difficult, but the possibility of his nomination until the last minute cannot be ruled out.

As an alternative to the District Prosecutor's Office, Kim Oh-soo, former Deputy Attorney General, is discussed.

Former Vice Minister Kim, from Honam, served with former ministers Park Sang-ki, Cho Kook, and Chu Mi-ae of the current government.

In 2019, along with former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, he was nominated for president, and after leaving the prosecution, the Blue House tried to sit as a member of the audit committee.

However, there are many internal criticisms that he did not properly mediate the conflict with the Supreme Prosecutors at the time of his tenure as the vice minister, and that he was on the side of the government.

In addition, former Busan High School Prosecutors, Gu Bon-seon Gwangju High School Prosecutors, and Nam-gwan Cho are also among the strongest candidates.

The results of the nomination committee meeting will be released this afternoon.

When the nomination committee recommends three or more candidates to Justice Minister Park Bum-gye as candidates, Minister Park proposes one of them to President Moon Jae-in.

President Moon's nomination is expected during next week.

Considering the schedule of personnel hearings, etc., the new president is expected to begin his term in late May.
