A man in his thirties who made up a cell phone dealership and distributed the nationwide cell phone, the so-called'cannon phone', a cell phone that is mainly used for voice phishing crimes, was arrested.

The Yangju Police Department in Gyeonggi Province announced today (26th) that Cha Mo, a 33-year-old man in distribution chief, was arrested on charges of violating the Telecommunications Business Act, and the remaining two salesmen were handed over to the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office.

They are accused of distributing 2,800 cannon phones by buying foreigners' ID cards through the anonymous social media Telegram and opening a prepaid sim.

In particular, since September of last year, Mr. Cha has set up a proxy store for the purpose of making and selling cannon phones rather than the normal opening of mobile phones.

In addition, I made a fake mobile phone subscription application, opened a SIM through a business partner, created a cannon phone, and even created a Kakao Talk account.

Mr. Cha sold the cannon phones and accounts made in this way for 160,000 won per unit, and made more than 200 million won in profit for about half a year.

It was investigated that the other two received foreigner's ID card from the passport seller and received 50,000 won per unit and generated more than 100 prepaid SIMs as a condition of opening the SIM.

Police believe the cannon phones they made were mostly sold and used by voice phishing criminal gangs.

In February of this year, the police investigated a suspect who had been fraudulent using the right to sell real estate, and tracked the cannon phone used in the crime, and on the 11th of last month, two men, men in their 30s and 40s, were captured.

After conducting an undercover investigation by specifying the personal information of the distribution general manager, Mr. Cha was arrested at a hiding place in Geumjeong-gu, Busan on the 14th of this month and arrested on the 17th.

In the process of arresting Mr. Cha, the police confiscated 2,800 passport photos of foreigners, 150 SIM chips, and air gauges.

The police believe that the foreigner ID card they used in the process of making the cannon phone was also illegally collected.

A police official said, "In addition to the crimes sent to the prosecutors, we are holding on to accomplices while continuing the investigation of female crimes."
