<Anchor> A

day ahead of the Day of the Disabled on April 20, we obtained materials showing the current status of the human rights of persons with disabilities in Korea.

Although disability can be experienced by everyone, there are still many people in our society who are physically and emotionally abused just because they are disabled.

In order to break the chain of repeated violence and find a social solution, we decided to reveal the bare face of the abuse of the disabled.

Therefore, I would like to inform you in advance that the video that we are going to show you may be a bit uncomfortable to see.

Then, as the first news, reporter Kang Cheong-wan will tell you what happened in a nursing home for the disabled.

<Reporter> At the

end of April last year, it is a nursing facility for the disabled in Chungbuk.

Upon entering the room, the operator of the facility approaches a disabled person lying in bed and beats him with a stick.

The beating continues even on the bare legs.

On the 28-minute CCTV screen, this scene of assault was repeated every time the operator approached the handicapped.

It was Jeong Mo, a pastor in his 60s, who was beaten by a first-class intellectual disability, 62-year-old A.

Mr. A, who weighed only 36 kg at the time, was later transferred to a hospital and died five months later.

[Guardian A: I never imagined this would happen. Sorry.]

This is a church building in the Chungbuk area where the incident took place.

Originally, it was used as both a church and a welfare facility for the disabled, but it was closed after the incident.

The operator, Jeong, was handed over to trial after he was charged with intercepting nearly 70 million won for eight years, such as the pay for the disabled in front of Mr. A.

This is the judgment obtained by SBS.

It is written that he was assaulted or abused for pushing his head out of bed while changing diapers while feeding.

[At the time, the person in charge of the case investigation (activist with a disability): (Mr. A) is not a person who can communicate verbally like this. I can't follow it quickly. Habits of physical abuse seem to have occurred.]

The son of the perpetrator claimed that "the mother cared for the disabled who couldn't go," and that "the charges of embezzlement are not true.

[Perpetrator Jung's family: They were just abandoned people. And my mother went to the market and bought everything, but there is no legal evidence to prove it.]

Even with this plea, the court confirmed the sentence of 3 years and 6 months last month.

The Justice Department finally ruled that it seriously undermined the efforts of our society to ensure a humane life for people with disabilities.

However, the causal relationship between assault and death was not proven during the investigation.
