An investigation was opened according to the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique.

The door of a mosque located in the north of Nantes was destroyed by fire overnight from Thursday to Friday and an investigation for degradation of a place of worship was entrusted to the departmental security, we learned on Friday from corroborating sources.

"A judicial investigation is underway into this fire, the origin of which is for the moment unknown", explained the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique.

Police said the fire was reported at 2:43 am and a "wooden double-leaf door" was destroyed, "but a closed (blackened) metal shutter was still blocking the entrance."

The fire was caused by a "fire of containers filled with cardboard boxes placed in front of this door", further explains the police.

We were "hired for a dustbin fire near the mosque", confirmed the firefighters of Loire-Atlantique, congratulated by the Minister of the Interior, in a tweet.

"We don't understand what could have happened"

"We have no problem, we have not had any recent threats either, in general things are going pretty well, us, on our side. So we do not understand what could have happened, he does not there are no tags, "responded the secretary of the Arrahma Mosque association.

"We declared the loss to our insurance this morning and we will go and file a complaint this afternoon," he added.

It will be necessary to repaint the facade and repair the destroyed door, but the mosque remains accessible via its two other entrances, he explained.
