What is the investigation?

This is the result of the'National Perception Survey on Changes in Planting Trees and Arbor Days' conducted by the Korea Forest Service and conducted with 1,6 citizens recently commissioned by the Korea Gallup.

Next Monday, April 5th is Arbor Day. Since 1946, the year following liberation, was the 1st Arbor Day, it is already the 76th this year.

There are voices saying that the date of Arbor Day needs to be changed because of'climate change'.

According to the analysis results of the private meteorological company'K Weather', the average temperature in Seoul on April 5 in the 1940s, when the first Arbor Day was held, was 7.9 degrees Celsius.

But in the 2010s, this temperature rose to 9.8 degrees Celsius.

It's got closer to 2 degrees.

As such, 79.2% of respondents said that in order to respond to climate change, it is necessary to operate the tree planting period earlier.

Specifically, 56.0% agreed to the opinion that the Arbor Day date should be changed in March.

Currently, only 37.2% of respondents said that it is correct to keep Arbor Day, that is, April 5th.

Pros and cons, there are reasons for each?

Reasons in favor of the change of Arbor Day were ‘the temperature rises enough in March’ and ‘Planting in March is more suitable for tree growth’. There were low temperatures in March when planting trees.

The rate of accurately knowing the date of Arbor Day was 85.4%, the rate of misunderstanding other dates was 5.3%, and the rate of unknown/refusal was 9.4%.

As for the meaning of Arbor Day, they responded in the order of'the day to announce the importance of planting trees' (53.5%) and the most suitable day for planting trees (22.7%).

Based on the results of this survey, the Korea Forest Service will determine whether to change the date of arbor day and use it to promote related procedures.
