While all eyes are on Apple, waiting for the Cupertino company to finally announce the Apple Car, another technology company has come to pull the rug out from under its feet: Xiaomi.

The Chinese firm has just announced the creation of a subsidiary dedicated to the development of connected electric vehicles.

To carry out its new project, Xiaomi will invest $ 10 billion in its new line of business over the next 10 years.

"Xiaomi hopes to deliver quality intelligent electric vehicles to enable everyone to enjoy a smart life anytime, anywhere," the brand said in a statement.

The development of the Mi Car will begin in April 2021, thanks to an initial envelope of 1.5 billion dollars.

The electric car war is brewing

For the moment, we do not know any more or what could look like the Mi Car, the first electric car of the Chinese manufacturer expected for 2023. According to the rumor, Xiaomi would develop an electric SUV in the first place and would have signed a partnership with the main Chinese SUV manufacturer, Great Wall Motor.

For its part, Huawei has already confirmed its intention to compete with Apple and Xiaomi by partnering with Tesla, but for the moment, the company has not yet proposed anything concrete.
